Lina Mendoni, the Ministry's secretary general, is optimistic that the archaelogists and preservers of the Amfipoli tomb will be able to restore the magnificent mosaic in the second chamber to a large degree.
She noted that so far there have been discoved quite a few missing segments, some of which are over 20cm in length, but also individual pebbles
However she stated that the restoration project would take a lot of time.
Mrs. Mendoni stated that the mosaic's theme, the abduction of Persefone, is not uncommon in ancient greek art, since it is recurring pattern in angiography of that era.
"Now we see it in pebbled formed as well" she concluded.
Moreover, she added that the findings so far confirm the initial researcher speculations that the tomb was built on the last quarter of the 4th century b.c.
