I've been trying to figure out what this refers to by looking through the standard QM and QFT texts, but I keep missing this. The phase difference between these trajectories leads to an interference pattern, which is magnified by an electrostatic lens. Although the potential reasons for that are many, that's another story for another time. During this time period the primary event (electron hitting wall) and quickly-occurring secondary events (cat killed or protected, and T or B typed on paper) already have occurred, even though we don't know what the outcome is until someone observes the results.
