Akron’s railroad infrastructure remained intact through the early 1970s. Subsequent to this sale, the system was further extended by completing the road from Montpelier, Ohio, to the Indiana-Illinois state line, which gave the shortest connection between Chicago and Detroit, and in 1898, by leasing a line between Detroit and Buffalo.
